Synopsis : Set during India's Emergency in December 1975, the film follows Jadunath, a union leader at Jethia Jute Mill in Kolkata, who faces a death sentence for murders he did not commit. Before his execution, he pledges to donate his eyes. The mill owner, Jethia, falsifies donation documents to secure Jadunath’s eyes for his blind son. However, a doctor uncovers the forgery. This injustice sparks outrage among the workers, who rally behind Jadunath's widow, demanding justice. The film serves as a powerful depiction of class struggle and systemic corruption during a turbulent period in Indian history.

Director Bio : Utpalendu Chakrabarty (1948 – 20 August 2024) was a noted Indian filmmaker from Kolkata, known for his commitment to socially conscious cinema. Born in Pabna District, he graduated from Scottish Church College in Kolkata and was deeply involved in left-wing politics during his youth. Initially a teacher, he transitioned to film, creating impactful documentaries and feature films highlighting social issues, particularly the struggles of marginalized communities. Notable works include Chokh (1983), which won multiple National Film Awards and an OCIC Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. His film Maina Tadanta (1980) also received national acclaim. Though he had two marriages, his daughters, Chitrangada and Ritabhari, were estranged from him. Chakrabarty passed away at 76.
