Synopsis : ‘Woman empowerment' was almost an alien concept when “Uttar Falguni” was made in 1963. It was a time when India had just started taking baby steps towards new concepts and cinema was made to reflect the society. 'Uttar Falguni' tells the sad story of a courtesan (Suchitra Sen) getting blackmailed by her estranged, evil husband. She ends up killing her alcoholic husband to save her daughter from social stigma. The powerful characters and brilliant acting including that of Bikash Roy, Dilip Mukherjee and Kalipada Chakraborty were nothing short of a revolution back then. The Asit Sen movie stormed with a story that made an impact straight away.
