Synopsis : The film ‘Watchmaker’ encapsulates a philosophical debate on the three ideological concepts of time- time rolls back, time is fixed, time has no existence(all accepted social constructs of civilization)- which the three characters epitomise and the fourth character, the commentator is trying to pull in and bridge the missing links. A watch is a metaphor. Every single body has a different perception about time. The theme of ‘Watchmaker’ revolves around time. The underdog, ‘watchmaker’ is a character for whom time travels backwards; therefore the hands of the watches he makes moves against time/ civilization. The counter philosophy to this civilization is a weird madness. A strange madness has evolved among us and it has acquired such a heightened proportion that we find an engaging conversation regarding this emerging madness with the President of India. This is a midnight story which has got no apparent connection with science or the concept of time travel. A stranger comes to order a watch to the watchmaker because time stands still in her life. Time stands still in her life – she leaves Delhi at around 12.30pm and reaches Kolkata at 12.30 pm only. The other character is a sculptor who asks the watchmaker for match-stick which is ironical because time has no significance to him.Both of them die in the end. In this struggle depicted the only truth which survives is that time rolls back. The film rebukes and scorns our cliché attachment with time.
