Synopsis : Pipili is famous for applique works of Odisha, locally known as Chandua. It is closely associated with the worship and religious tradition of Lord Jagannath. The Dorji (the tailor) community are involved in making different religious decorative items like Chandua, Chhati, Alota, Trasa, Bana, etc. with unique mythical motifs. The traditional colours like red, green, black and yellow signify the philosophy of Hindu mythology. Pipili applique has its both social and religious value, sustaining a mass. The film documented on Applique Handicraft of Pipili, has been done in Puri district of Odisha.
Director Bio : Dr. Krishna Basu is an anthropologist by profession. She has exposed in various ethnographic field study related to tribal cultures. She has contributed effectively in the field of Visual Anthropology and directed more than two documentary films in the auspicious of Anthropological Survey of India. As a senior officer of Anthropological Survey of India, she has served more than 25 years in the field of Socio - Cultural Anthropology. She has more than fifteen research publications in her credential.
