Synopsis : Rangabhoomi Bhalobashi’is a documentary film trying to capture the essence of the life-journey of a major contemporary theatre artiste Ashok Mukhopadhyay. Initiated into theatre when he was only 20 by the great Ajitesh Bandopadhyay. Ashok traversed a long and chequered career as theatre director and actor to reach the acme of his creativity. He also translated & adapted plays with great felicity. He has also been a very successful teacher of theatre-arts & has travelled world-wide attending seminars & workshops. His books on theatre are regarded as must-reads for drama students. Ashok also acted in films by Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Buddhadev Dasgupta, Raja Sen & others. Plays enriched by his acting include Rajrakta, Chakbhanga Modhu, Narak Guljar, Schweyk Gelo Juddhe, Galileor Jibon, Bedaa, Andhayujer Manush, Kushilab etc. As director he excelled in his debut Bela Abelar Galpo and went on to produce significant plays like Beda, Andhajuger Manush, Poka, Biye-Gauni Kandanchapa, Kushilab etc. The film is a tribute to this wonderful young man of 78 who still dreams of reaching new frontiers.
Director Bio : Santanu Saha, a post-graduate in Soil Chemistry from University of Calcutta in 1997. After completing his educational career he joined as Programme Associate in ETV BANGLA (TV channel) in 2000. After that Santanu Saha is still working in audio-visual medium last 18 years. He is specialized in making short promotional movies and short n full lengh documentaey films. He made a full length documentary film (2012) on eminant theatre personality Sri Bibhash Chakraborty; namely, Behind The Curtain-- A journey with Bibhash Chakraborty. RANGABHUMI BHALOBASHI, Santanus' latest acclimed documentary film on another actor-diretor of bengali theatre Sri Ashok Mukhopadhyay.
