Synopsis : The culture of Purulia is somewhere deeply entwined with the traditional dance form called “Chou”. Most of the people residing in the place is somehow influenced by this dance. While some are engaged in preparing its mask, some its costumes, the others sing and enact in this traditional dance style .In a sense they have got “Chou” running in their veins . However in today’s technologically enhanced society, people hardly remember this art. And slowly but surely it is being forgotten. Financial crunch is adding to it. That’s the reason the people whose major livelihood revolved around “Chou” at one point of time, is facing a hard time these days. They have an uncertain and insecure lives ahead. Our short film is based on the life of such a “Chou “artist. Fighting the different adversity of a poverty stricken life this person refuses to let go “Chou” and thereby emerges as the true baton bearer of this classic but lost dance form. Ramayan here acts as a metaphor whereby the story shows the victory of good, here portrayed as the artist who loves Chou as his own, over evil symbolized as the fast paced ambitious world around us.
Director Bio : By profession Mr. Biswajit Das is a researcher in Physics. Filmmaking is his passion. Previously he make two more short films which are also selected in verious prestigious festivals. This film is also selected in verious national and international festival and has screened in a TV channel.
