The pain stricken Chandrabati chooses a passionate life, confining herself inside a Shiva Temple, vowing to rewrite the great Indian epic Ramayana. She recalls her early writings and decides to transform Sita - the ignored female of the epic - into the main hero. Jayananda realizes his grave mistake and returns to the temple seeking forgiveness from Chandrabati. She refuses to listen to him and concentrates on completing her mission of rewriting the epic into a ballad of her own conscious. The rejected Jayananda commits suicide by drowning in the nearby river. The pain stricken Chandrabati gets very sick after this incident but still struggles to remain obdurate of completing her journey. Set in the mid-sixteenth century, classical East Bengal context, Chandrabati Kotha (aka The Tales of Chandrabati) is a tribute to the passionate world of this pioneering feminist Bengali poet, Chandrabati.
