Synopsis : BORUNBABUR BONDHU (School Friend) Synopsis: Borunbabu, an octogenarian, can’t quite come to terms with the world around him. As a result, he has isolated himself from the society and even from most of his family. His ailing wife is bedridden. Apart from her, his childhood friend Sukumar, who visits him almost daily and his grandson Nemo ‘, who is a special child, are the only people he can relate to. The other members of his family, including the ones who live with him, hardly interact with him unless absolutely necessary, because of his irritable nature and his non-compromising attitude and somewhat obstinate ways. Even a special occasion like his 80th Birthday is not properly celebrated and only a small gathering of very close family and his best friend is organized with minimum fuss. Even on a day like that Borunbabu gets upset over something he overhears and disassociates himself from the rest. Borun becomes very lonely with the passing away of his wife. He has been a principled man all his life but is not perceived as someone who has been ‘successful’ in the accepted sense of the term. He is therefore not seen as someone ‘important’ by his relatives and acquaintances Suddenly something happens which changes all this. Borun overnight becomes important to all those who had ignored or even avoided him all these days. Now everyone wants to please him and get close him to fulfill their personal agendas, as by default Borun overnight becomes influential and assumes a position of power. A big bash is organized on his 81st Birthday where an old friend who is now a VVIP invites himself. Borun gets irritated with his newfound status and reflected glory, as he realizes that all this attention is superficial and that all the people around him are cozying up for ulterior motive. The resolution of the film is about how Borunbabu deals with this extraordinary situation in his own inimitable way.
