Synopsis : Among the passengers at Fiumicino airport, there’s Obaida, a bright engineering student who miraculously arrives in Rome thanks to a scholarship. He used to dream of becoming a singer but the war changed his priorities. Obaida is on his own, his family remained in Syria. When everything is lost, starting over seems impossible. But life never ceases to surprise Obaida: He will sing at “The Voice”, he will graduate with honors and his path will cross other lives and stories. Though he looks lost at the airport arrivals, Obaida seems to know where to go despite not knowing the way. With his extraordinary story and his courageous example, Obaida offers the spectator a different perspective on Syria in its war years, allowing us to know the Syrian culture regardless of the tragic state it is currently in.
Director Bio : Since 1995 Leonardo has been working on the stage of the entertainment world as an actor and director. In 2000 he started his career in film with different studies of acting, directing, cinematography an editing in Italy and abroad. Leonardo graduated in cinema at "La Sapienza" university of Rome and in filmmaking at the New York Film Academy in New York. He won a prize with his short film, “La città di Asterix”, at the Rome Fiction Fest 2010. In the same year, he directed his film documentary, “Through Korean Cinema”, produced by Blue Film Italia and distributed by Wide House France. The documentary was a success and was screened at the Busan Film Festival (Korea) 2010 and the Tokyo Film Festival 2011. His latest works include the documentary “Southeast Asian Cinema – When the Rooster Crows” premiered in Busan and Singapore 2014. Broadcast at Sundance Channel. In 2015 he made “Doris&Hong” a documentary between Italy and China. At the moment Leonardo is in production with a new work “Obaida” a documentary on the life of a Syria young man. Next project in Asia “Recording China” is a documentary about Chinese independent cinema. It’s in development stage, selected in Crossing Borders 2017.
