Synopsis : This film tells us the story of five characters who are looking for themselves and for their place among the people. Subsequent to the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968, the main character, the cook Lauko, is under the fatal impression that he is being punished for his political past- he had caused harm to two old people during the forceful collectivisation of small Slovak farms. The film is essentially about the everyday banality of life in the socialist regime, but also hope and desire for freedom. It is reminiscent of French New Wave – a strange combination of cinema verité and magical realism.
