Synopsis : Hunger has only one solution — food. Be it the hungry tummy or the soul — survival demands food, to munch or ponder on. Veteran writer Munshi Premchand had depicted two characters in his short story ‘Kafan’ – a father and a son – who were socially numb and devoid of basic human emotions. This film ‘Daaye’ (obligation) has been adopted from ‘Kafan’. It’s a film whose narrative involves a quest to find that driving force which makes people indifferent to life. The depiction of the daily lifestyle of the father and the son in this film is an honest reflection of the way the terminal people of our country live. To establish the mess these two characters are in, a few more characters have been introduced. One of them is a hard-working farmer, Charan, whose hard work doesn’t get paid off financially. Charan always responds but his response or demand remains unheard to the society or the social class who can make a difference. The grievance of a farmer remains unattended. Another character is that of Mayna, who comes as a splash of colour amidst the grey winter. Mayna’s character stands for hope and relief in life. The landowner of the village and his wife have also played a crucial role in shaping the main characters of the film. The story moves on rhythmically with the help of friction, confusion and tension among these characters. They meet their destinies that reveal the position of hope, despair and hunger – the ultimate need — in a person's life who fights hunger every moment. The story was written back in 1936
Director Bio : jyotirmay Deb is an academician and( Teaching Films in Techno Indi University and perusing PhD from same university ) practitioner of films since last 10 years. He is serving film industries as a screenwriter director. He has done several international award wining Documentary Films like In Memory of The Master and An Advocate Of The Oasis. He has worked as a scriptwriter in Television for fiction and nonfiction programs as well. ‘Daaye’is his second feature film which is getting warm appreciation in many international film festivals
