Synopsis : Niranjan Pradhan began his journey in the professional art world in the 1960s but came to limelight only during the decade of 1980s. His works are deeply attached to the reality of flowing life and the socio temporal world around him. An undying zeal in life kept Pradhan moving ahead in his artistic journey. The foundation of the man and the artist he became was, however, laid down in his growing years in the tiny village of ‘Kalindi’ in Medinipur district of West Bengal situated on the coast of the Bay of Bengal. The Kalindi Union High School played a very important role in the growing up of Niranjan Pradhan. Not just his academic life, his artistic journey too began in this very school. Once the direction of his life was set, there was no looking back for Niranjan Pradhan. The struggles that he underwent to achieve his dream despite all odds, seems to have developed in him, the vigour and energy that is reflected in the magnificent and massive sculptures and statues that mark his artistic career.
