Synopsis : MOHANDAS is a feature film that explores the childhood of Mahatma Gandhi. It is largely based on his autobiography A Story of My Experiments with Truth. The film captures Gandhi’s childhood and the events that helped him understand the essence of truth and the power of non-violence. It covers Gandhi’s life over a period of around seven years spanning from his childhood to adolescence when he was known as Mohandas. The intention of the film ‘Mohandas’ is to portray Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’s childhood to highlight how ordinary his childhood was and also how he dealt with corrupting influences and the lure of vices. It traces the key role played by the piety of his mother, the compassion of his father and the influence of mythological stories in transforming him. The film seeks to dispel stereotypes about Gandhi and depict the manner in which an ordinary and vulnerable child, Mohandas, evolved into the Mahatma.
