Director Bio : Nirmal Dey was born in Mymensingh (now Bangladesh). A graduate in Fine Arts, he has worked in short fiction films in the 30s. He has assisted Bimal Roy at New Theatres as a cameraman, later went on to share the screenplay credit with him for Udayer Pathey (1944). Dey debuted with the unfinished but significant “Bedeni’’ (based on a Tarashankar Bannerjee’s story). His ‘’Sharey Chuattar” launched the screen duo of Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen. Satyajit Ray regarded the director as the first genuine purveyor of Bengali social comedies. Despite their success, Dey made only a few more films, scripting other film-makers’s work instead, including Gurudas Bagchi’s Samanaral (1970).
