Synopsis : In the city of Joy, Kolkata, Rahul and Nandini, a young married couple lives in their nice apartment at Salt Lake City. The working couple are smart at their office jobs but has completely failed to run a smooth healthy life at home. Nandini, having failed to receive any cooperation from Rahul, finally starts seeking a housekeeper or at least a cook but fails to find anybody appropriate. One day a cook named Maharaaj comes to meet them. Nandini is hesitant to appoint him but then concedes to Rahul’s persistence. Thereafter the life of the couple suddenly gets filled with joy and the pleasure of food, music and debates. The situation gets altered when Maharaaj starts showing his own stand on various social and practical issues. The healthy friendship becomes a clash of ego and eventually Maharaaj is fired from his job. The night Maharaaj is fired, three bomb blasts are reported in the city. It is suspected that some terrorist organisation was planning for it and many of their members were actually residing in the city with fake identities. This information makes Rahul nervous and insecure regarding Maharaaj. In the middle of that night, Nandini finds Maharaaj again in her apartment with a cup of coffee but there was nothing concrete to prove or disprove his existence to others. She realised that she has been elevated to the next level of her life through the journey of last few months but the existence of Maharaaj remained questionable to the couple for ever.
Director Bio : Nirupam Dutta was born on 15th June, 1985 in West Bengal, India. “Maharaaj” is his debut feature film which has taken almost 5 years of hard work. Before coming to full time film making, he earned his doctoral degree in Physics from the University of Bielefeld, Germany and afterwards had spent several years in active research. Though he used to be a Physicist by profession, film making was among his most exciting passions. He has made few documentaries earlier during his undergraduate days. He has started his own production house "Musafir Stories" in Kolkata in collaboration with his crew and is looking forward to a wonderful journey of storytelling in future.
