Synopsis : A series of events will radically change the lives of the inhabitants of a Roman apartment building, revealing their difficulties in being parents, siblings or neighbors, in a world where co-existence seems to be ruled by fear and resentment. While the men are imprisoned by their obstinacy, the women, each in their own way, attempt to mend these fragmented lives to finally and serenely pass on a love that had been thought lost forever.
Director Bio : Nanni Moretti lives in Rome, where since he was a kid he devoted himself to his two passions: cinema and water-polo. In 1970 he also played in water-polo first division in Italy, and in the junior National team. In those years he was also very committed in politics, within the youth league of the Italian Communist Party. Once he finished his high school studies, he sold his stamps collection to buy a Super8 camera, using which he started shooting home-made short films with his friends in 1973. His professional movie-making career starts with “Ecce bombo” (1978). This was also his first nation-wide success, and still a cultmovie for many Italians.
