Synopsis : Bengal's Durga puja dates back to the times when India was under Mughal dominance. Going 400 years back in the 16th century King Uday Narayan wanted to conduct Durga Utsav in 1590. The plan was halted due to King Uday Narayan's death. Later Durga Utsav was first started by Raja Kansha Narayan (1606) who was Uday Narayan's grandson. Earlier Goddess Durga was worshipped in the temples. Raja Kangsha Narayan brought out the deity from the inner sanctum and made the puja a ceremony for the masses. This documentary traces the history of 431 years of Durga utsav of Bengal following the first ever 'Barowari' pujo in 1790 at Hooghly Gupti Para and first ever Sarbojonin Pujo in Kolkata in 1832 by Harinath (King of Kashimbazar) Over the years Durga Puja of Bengal has been a constant attraction for tourists around the world.
