Synopsis : Cultivation is the principal culture of the Bodo tribe of Assam. Almost all male and female folks are engaged in it. The rich have to give maximum time in their corn-field and it is a tradition of the Bodo tribe to hire a paid girl of a poor family. This girl is called “Bokhali” in the community. Sukhram, an expert in traditional Bodo dances and a well-known player of chifung (a flute in Bodo folklore) sends her daughter Bhumika as “Bokhali” to a rich man’s house taking ten thousand rupees as bond. Bhumika was also an excellent dancer and Nature lover. However Sukhram’s drinking habits and the fast changing world around compels him to take this drastic step. What follows is a story of heartbreak and repentance, promises and misgivings. Will Sukhram be able to bring back her daughter from her life as a “Bokkhali’?
Director Bio : Arup Manna has a diploma in direction, cinematography and script-writing from St, Xaviers College, Mumbai. He is also a visiting lecturer of Dr, Bhupen Hazarika Regional Film and TV Institute, Assam and was the Jury Member of National Award 2008 and Indian Panorama 2016. He has been working for 30 years in the Assamese film industry. His notable works include “Adieu” which won him a National Award, “Adhyay” and “Aarohi”.
