Synopsis : A collector officer arrives in a new city for his job. Amazed by the historic royal palace, he decides to live in the palace. Though warned by many, as ‘haunted’ and ‘desolate’, still the Collector sticks to his decision. In the evening, he hears classical music and the sweet sound of nupur (ankle-belts), and meets Mumtaz, who seems very familiar to him, but he cannot remember where he has seen her before. Will he be able to remember his past life? Synchronized with the sweet sarod of Ali Akbar Khan, this historical horror is an evergreen classic in the history of Bengali Cinema. This film is based on a short story of the same name by Rabindranath Tagore.
Director Bio : Tapan Sinha (2 October 1924 – 15 January 2009) was one of the most prominent Indian film directors of his time forming a legendary quartet with Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and Mrinal Sen.He was one of the acclaimed filmmakers of the Parallel Cinema movement of India.
