Synopsis : Navigating the struggles of a young widow, Dakshayani Devi, and her defiant daughter,Batashi,Sagar Sangamey, essentially the tale of two characters, begins with them commencing a journey by boat to Sagar Mela, an annual religious fair. After combatting the hardships on their way, the villagers aboard the ship reach their destination safely. Unfortunately,Batashi is afflicted with pneumonia and, despite the doctor’s relentless efforts to save her, dies. Symbolic of the fact that life must go on in spite of all its trials and tribulations, the mother, though alone now,continues the pilgrimage
Director Bio : Padma Shri DebakiKumar Bose(1898–1971), adirector, writer, and actor of Hindi as well as Bengali films, was the first Indian director to receive an international award- an Honorary Diploma at Venice Film Festival for Seeta (1934). The Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winner, known for his ground-breaking use of sound and music in Indian cinema, started his own production company, Debaki Productions, in 1945
