Synopsis : The plot of Alma Viva appears to be a straightforward tale of tradition and modernization set in a small mountain community in Portugal. Salome, a pre-adolescent girl, is caught between two worlds: the magically endowed folk culture of her adored grandmother's home, and the cold materialism that has driven so many people in this impoverished TrasOs Montes region of Portugal to leave for France, where Salome herself grew up. However, the first film by French/Portuguese director Cristele Alves Meira gradually evolves into a ghost story that centres on spirit possession.
