Synopsis : The film begins with Kabir Khan, former captain of the men’s national hockey team of India, being shunned on religious grounds after an appalling loss to Pakistan. Seven years later, he becomes the coach of the Indian National Women’s Hockey team in an attempt to redeem himself and bring home the trophy. From uniting a group of sixteen young women divided by their regional prejudices and contentious natures into a team as well as fighting the misogyny that pervades every inch of the patriarchal structure we live in to earning worldwide acclaim and achieving their goal through utmost grit and hard work, Chak De! India displays how the team of underdogs and their coach score with every oddball that life throws at them. “In fact, the film’s greatest merit is its commentary on sexism in India. As it should, Chak De! India gives the women, in the closing credits, the last word.”—Andy Webster, The New York Times
