Synopsis : Based on a novel of the same name by the only Bengali sports-fiction author, Moti Nandi, this film is about a girl, Koni, who lives in a slum, and with the help of her ‘unconventional’ coach Khitish Sinha, aka Khidda, competes at the National Swimming Championship and be the champion. The unconventional, ‘inhuman’ mad Khidda keeps a strict eye on her practice, while at the same time, looks after her and her family, as a guardian. The legendary dialogue of Khidda, Fight, Koni, Fight has not only inspired the people, but also Mr. Soumitra Chatterjee himself, in troubled times.

Director Bio : Saroj Dey (1921-26 Nov 1997) was a Bengali film director who was part of the “Agragami” collective and made films under its banner, from ’50s to ’70s. He made his directorial debut in 1955, his film Daak Harkara (1958) with the collective Agragami,was selected for the Venice Film Festival, and also won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. He is best known for directing Je JekhaneDariye (1974), and the National award-winning inspirational sports dramaKony. Interestingly, Kony was not a part of the Agragami collective, but rather directed under his own banner, funded by the state govt. His film Nisithe has also won the National Award for the Second-Best Feature Film in 1962
