Synopsis : After Kumudini’s uncle objects to her marriage with Hirendranath, a young man from Calcutta who falls in love with her on a visit to his aunt’s village, the heartbroken lover returns to the city and gets employed in the railways in Jamalpur. The boiler inspector there, at his deathbed post an accident, requests Hirendranath to marry Surama, his daughter. The two tie the knot but knots appear in their marriage as well because Surama, ambitious and dissatisfied with their social status, wants Hirendranath to do better. He quits his job and turns towards business. Success costs him time and he is unable to give his wife enough attention. A letter from his aunt takes him back to her village where he meets Kumudini again, but she is now married to a man who is not bothered about her at all. Of an unrequited love rekindledyears later, Nimantran portrays how something as simple as an invitation can prove life altering.
Director Bio : Padma Shri Tarun Majumdar (22 September 1931 – 4 July 2022) was an Indian film director and screenwriter whose films, mostly an ode to rural life and living, were based on literature, and were renowned for their perennial characters and evergreen music. He received four National Awards, seven BFJA Awards, five Filmfare Awards and an Anandalok Award for his excellent contribution to Bengali cinema.
