Synopsis : All their friends and neighbours moved south for the winter, but the two widows Ratima and Kalima have chosen to stay back because they have been appointed as caretakers of their empty village. Isolated and snowbound for a hundred days of winter, the two women have only each other for company and support. But their common past - they shared the same husband for fifty years - often comes up between them. As winter deepens, staying alive becomes a greater priority than guard duty.
Director Bio : Rajan Kathet is a Nepal based filmmaker. He is an alumnus of the European Masters DocNomads 2014-16, Berlinale Talents 2017 and Global Media Makers Residency 2021/22. Rajan's first feature documentary, "No Winter Holidays," premiered in the International First Feature Competition section of the Sheffield DocFest 2023, and had its Asian Premiere at the DMZ Docs 2023. The film is a DMZ Docs Industry Fund recipient, winner of the HAF/WIP Documentary and HAF Goes to Cannes Award, and a finalist at the Whickers TV & Documentary Pitch 2020. His short fiction, "Bare Trees In The Mist (2019)," was screened at several international film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival 2019, Tampere Film Festival, HKIFF, Encounters Film Festival and Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia, etc. Rajan collaborates with national and international filmmakers through his production company Salpa Films. Rajan is dedicated to supporting film education, regularly contributing to the KIMFF DocLab at the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival. Through his involvement in local film schools and filmmaking workshops, he is also helping to cultivate the next generation of filmmakers.
