Synopsis : In the lull between battles, Carmela and Paulino entertain the Republican Army with a small cabaret show. When they are dismissed they want to return to Valencia, where the world is less cruel and the food is better. They are accompanied by the dumb Gustavete, whom they have picked up somewhere on their travels. On the way home they fall into the hands of the fascists. Paulino is quick to realise that he can use the attractive and naive Carmela to turn the enemy into friends. But a woman like Carmela lets no one pull the wool over her eyes. At the very moment when Paulino, with a carefully prepared show, wants to win the goodwill of the fascists once and for all, Carmela's wild temperament breaks out.
