Synopsis : With the seemingly unattainable ambition of establishing a colony in the honor of the King, the poor captain Ludvig Kahlen sets out to conquer the harsh, inhospitable Danish heath in 1755. He will acquire a greatly wanted Royal name in return. But the region's lone ruler, the cruel Frederik de Schinkel, is haughty enough to think he owns this territory. The aristocratic and vindictive monarch De Schinkel swears retribution when he finds out that the maid Ann Barbara and her servant husband have fled for safety with Kahlen. He then does all in his power to drive the captain away. When Kahlen refuses to be intimidated, he joins in an unfair fight, endangering not only his own life but also the lives of the strangers who have come to establish a family around him.
Director Bio : A Danish filmmaker and screenwriter by the name of Nikolaj Arcel. The Danish Film School awarded him a degree. With screenplays for movies like Island of Lost Souls and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, he has achieved breakthrough success as a writer in the United States. Nikolaj really wrote and directed The Island of Lost Souls.
