Synopsis : In a village nestled in the remote corners of West Bengal, an aged agricultural scientist is ceaselessly dedicating himself to the revival of nearly forgotten natural farming practices with original paddy seeds and manures. Assisted by a small group of enthusiastic young villagers, his endeavors are pushing the boundaries of agricultural science while exposing hypocrisy of the modern agro-industries.The scientist's team also extends their support to the local tribal communities, aiding them in revitalizing their ancestral farming traditions. Yet, the presence of the local land mafia and the dominance of multinational pesticide and fertilizer companies cast a dark cloud over the scientist's noble quest, with constant threats to stop their progress. In the mean, an environmentalist and a journalist visit the village and get involved in the crisis. Amidst adversity, yet armed with the power of unity, will they be able to sustain their noble quest?
Director Bio : Biplab Das, 43, is a story writer and independent film director. "KALAMKATHI" is his first feature film. People associated with different stages of traditional farming and distribution have come together to make this movie. This movie is inspired by works of traditional farmers from Indian states of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Sikkim who are the relentless protectors of uncorrupted nature and food. Previously, his short film ''THE THISTLE BALL'' (2019) has been screened in ''25th Kolkata International Film Festival'' and short film ''TANDOORI'' (2020) has been screened in various film festivals and got awards around the world. He is also an author of three popular Bengali books.
