Synopsis : Anne Lambert's character Miranda joins an Australian ladies boarding school in the early 1900s. Rachel Roberts, the normally rigorous headmistress of the school, gives the girls a picnic field trip to the strange but beautiful volcanic rock known as Hanging Rock one Valentine's Day. Miranda and a few other females break the rules and go out. The faculty is unaware that the girls and one of the professors, Vevean Gray, have inexplicably vanished until the conclusion of the day.
Director Bio : Australian film director and screenwriter Peter Weir was born in Sydney, Australia, on August 21, 1944. He is renowned for his thoughtful, poignant dramas that often examine the interactions between persons and their societal surroundings. He directed many critically praised Hollywood productions and helped spark a revival in Australian filmmaking. Weir was raised in a Sydney neighborhood. In 1965, he left for a brief stay at the University of Sydney and visited Europe. He had made up his mind to pursue a career in entertainment by the time he returned to Australia the following year. Weir started off as a stagehand for a television network, where he enjoyed making short films with other staff members. He began serving as a director and cameraman for the Commonwealth Film Unit, which was supported by the government, in 1969.
