Synopsis : Daisy Werthan (Jessica Tandy), an elderly Jewish widow living in Atlanta, is determined to maintain her independence. However, when she crashes her car, her son, Boolie (Dan Aykroyd), arranges for her to have a chauffeur, an African-American driver named Hoke Colburn (Morgan Freeman). Daisy and Hoke's relationship gets off to a rocky start, but they gradually form a close friendship over the years, one that transcends racial prejudices and social conventions.
Director Bio : Bruce Beresford, (born August 16, 1940, Sydney, Australia), an Australian filmaker and stage director, screenwriter, and producer who specializes in small-budget character-driven dramas. Beresford began making short films as a student at the University of Sydney, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1964. He then went to London, where he helped produce documentaries for the British Film Institute. In 1976 Beresford made the comedy Don’s Party, and it earned him an Australian Film Institute award for best director. His biggest success was Driving Miss Daisy (1989), winner of an Academy Award for best picture. Other notable films included Black Robe (1991), Rich in Love (1992), Paradise Road (1997), Double Jeopardy (1999), and The Contract (2006).
