Synopsis : Madhab inherited the art of breathing life into the inanimate from his father, weaving movement, laughter, and tears into his puppetry. unhesitatingly, he lapped it up and made it central to his existence. Now, in the twilight of his years, his once-vibrant skills dim alongside his fading strength. As puppet theatres lose allure and his troupe dwindles, Madhab confronts the spectre of obscurity. "Dolls Don't Die" paints a poetic tableau of his journey—a delicate dance between the harsh rhythms of reality and the sublime melodies of an impassioned artist's dreams.
Director Bio : Ranajit Ray, a filmmaker from Kolkata. His films "Clay Image Makers of Kumartuli" and "Aoleang" received the prestigious "Silver Lotus" awards in 2014 and 2015 respectively. His short film "Ajopa Gacha" was part of the Indian Panorama, and he served as a jury member for the Indian National Film Awards in 2017. Feature-length film "Putulnama (Dolls Don't Die)" was selected for the "EBS International Film Festival 2023" in Korea and the "Istanbul International Film Festival 2024. Had special screening at “Liberation Museum Doc Fest Dhaka 2024” and also selected at 16th IDSFFK. Short film "CHORKI (The Paper Wheel)" was showcased at the Clermont-Ferrand festival in 2024, and was named the best experimental short at the Avignon International Film Festival 2024.
