Synopsis : In 1917 Rangoon, Edward, a British civil servant, abandons his fiancée, Molly, on the day she arrives to marry him. Consumed by melancholy, he embarks on a frantic escape across British-ruled Asia. Molly, however, remains undeterred. Amused by his sudden flight and resolute in her desire to marry him, she follows his trail, turning his escape into a grand pursuit. As Edward grapples with his inner turmoil, Molly’s persistence brings them closer to an unexpected resolution, set against the backdrop of British colonial Burma during World War I.
Director Bio : Miguel Gomes, born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1972, is a celebrated Portuguese filmmaker. He studied cinema at Lisbon's Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. Before directing, he worked as a film critic and authored theoretical writings on cinema. His notable films include The Face You Deserve (2004), Our Beloved Month of August (2008), Tabu (2012), and the Arabian Nights trilogy (2015). Tabu won the Alfred Bauer Prize and the FIPRESCI Jury Prize at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival. His latest film, Grand Tour (2024), earned him the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Director. Gomes is known for blending documentary and fiction, exploring unique narrative structures.
