Synopsis : Set in a small mountain village in Italy at the end of World War II, the film follows the lives of three sisters as they undergo significant transformations. Their world is altered with the arrival of Pietro, a deserter, who enters the household of their father, the local teacher. Pietro’s romantic involvement with the eldest daughter sparks changes that affect the entire family and the village community. As the sisters navigate love, war, and personal growth, their experiences reflect the broader impacts of conflict on relationships and individual identities during a tumultuous period in history.
Director Bio : Maura Delpero, born on October 3, 1975, in Bolzano, Italy, is an acclaimed filmmaker recognized for her impactful drama films Maternal and Vermiglio. After studying literature at the University of Bologna and film at SICA in Buenos Aires, Delpero debuted with two documentaries, Teachers and Nadia and Sveta, both showcased at the Torino Film Festival. Her feature film Maternal premiered at the 72nd Locarno Film Festival in 2019, winning the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and earning her a nomination for Best New Director at the 66th David di Donatello awards. Delpero's second feature, the WWII drama Vermiglio, debuted at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in 2024, where it received the Grand Jury Prize.
