Synopsis : Lang, a former stunt motorcyclist and musician, returns home to a deserted town near the Gobi Desert after serving time for manslaughter. He finds his family struggling—his father’s zoo is closed, and his sister is financially strained. Lang joins a local dog-capturing team as stray dogs overrun the town, with a bounty placed on an elusive black dog as part of preparations for the 2008 Olympics. Through encounters with locals and a traveling circus dancer, Lang develops compassion for the dogs, faces past conflicts, and ultimately reconciles with his father and himself, riding into the desert with a new puppy.
Director Bio : Guan Hu, born on August 1, 1968, is a renowned sixth-generation Chinese filmmaker known for capturing contemporary social themes. A graduate of the Beijing Film Academy (1991), he began his career as the youngest director at the Beijing Film Studio. His debut film, Dirt (1994), depicted Beijing’s rock scene and marked his emergence as a key figure in Chinese cinema, with state approval enabling both domestic and international screenings. Guan’s accolades include the NETPAC Award for Eyes of a Beauty (2002), Golden Horse awards for Cow (2009) and Design of Death (2012), and Cannes’ Prix Un Certain Regard for Black Dog (2024).
