Synopsis : Motel Destino is set in a neon-lit roadside sex hotel on Brazil’s northeastern coast, run by temperamental Elias and his restless wife, Dayana. Their lives are disrupted by 21-year-old Heraldo, a young gang member on the run after a failed hit. Drawn to Heraldo, Dayana engages in a dangerous power play fuelled by intrigue and desire. As loyalties shift and passion intensifies, their fates intertwine in a tropical noir that explores the mysterious forces of destiny, set against the sultry, sun-drenched backdrop of Brazil.
Director Bio : Karim Ainouz, born on January 17, 1966, in Fortaleza, Brazil, is a Brazilian-Algerian filmmaker and visual artist. He gained recognition with his debut film Madame Satã (2002) at Cannes. His notable works include The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão (2019), which won top honors in Cannes' Un Certain Regard, and Futuro Beach (2014), which premiered at the Berlinale. His documentaries, like Zentralflughafen THF (2018) and Mariner of the Mountains (2021), reflect personal and cultural themes. Aïnouz’s English-language debut, Firebrand (2023), competed at Cannes, as did Motel Destino (2024), an erotic thriller set in Northeast Brazil. He also co-founded The Center for Audiovisual Narratives to mentor emerging filmmakers.
