Synopsis : Thirteen-year-old Marcielle lives on Marajó Island in the Amazon rainforest, where life is harsh and options for the future are limited. Driven to change her fate, she bravely decides to confront the violent system that controls her family and the women in her community. With determination, Marcielle challenges the oppressive structures around her, seeking a path to freedom and hope.
Director Bio : Marianna Brennand Fortes, born in Brasília, Brazil, is a filmmaker and cultural producer. She graduated in Film Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2002 and founded Inquietude in 2007, aiming to promote Brazilian cultural values through film. Currently, she is working on Manas, her first fiction feature, which addresses the sexual exploitation of children in Brazil’s Marajó Archipelago. Her documentary Francisco Brennand won Best Brazilian Documentary at São Paulo IFF and the Brazilian Critics’ Award in 2012. Her 2007 film O Coco, A Roda, O Pneu e O Farol premiered at the Biarritz Festival and won the Gilberto Freyre Trophy at CinePE.
