Synopsis : During World War II, a Jewish father throws his young daughter from a train bound for Auschwitz, hoping to save her. She’s found by a poor, childless Polish woodcutter and his wife, who live in a remote forest. Taking the girl in, they raise her as their own, altering their lives and those around them. The story follows the girl’s journey through survival and resilience, exploring themes of identity, sacrifice, and the lasting impact of kindness in times of horror. Through the couple’s devotion, her life is transformed, deeply touching everyone whose paths she crosses.
Director Bio : Michel Hazanavicius, born in Paris to a Jewish family of Lithuanian and Polish origin, began his career directing commercials before entering film. His first feature, La Classe américaine (1993), used re-edited Warner Bros. footage, and he directed his first short film, Echec au capital, in 1997. He gained recognition with OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006) and its sequel OSS 117: Lost in Rio(2009), both parodying 1960s spy films. His silent, black-and-white film The Artist (2011) won him the Academy Award for Best Director. He later directed The Players and a remake of The Search (2014).
