Synopsis : A slice-of-life film, LAHARI meanders through the lives of two friends: boatman Bhuta and fisherman Dinu, and takes us on their journey of trying to establish indigenous methods of livelihood for survival and to elevate their present situation. In the process, the film depicts the invasion of urban capitalism, superficial and auto-centred, personified by tourists, confronted to a certain authenticity and way of life.
Director Bio : Amartya Bhattacharyya is a writer and independent filmmaker. He is a National Award winner, a State Awardee, and has bagged over twenty international awards as a director, writer, cinematographer and editor. Amartya’s films have screened at over 140 international film festivals around the world including the prestigious MIFF (Moscow), IFFI (Goa), IFFK (Kerala), KIFF (Kolkata), Jogja-NETPAC (Indonesia) etc. His notable films are Adieu Godard, Son of Adam, Runanubandha, Khyanikaa, Capital I, Benaras. His film ‘Adieu Godard’ won 7 international awards including the Best Film – Indian competition at the Kolkata International Film Festival 2022. ‘Khyanikaa’ featured in the Indian Panorama section of IFFI, Goa in 2017. He won the National Award in 2016 for ‘Benaras – The unexplored attachments’.
