Synopsis : 14-year-old Houlaye, who, like many villagers, has to walk several kilometers each day to fetch water for her family. The film sheds light on the struggle of people in remote African villages to access a basic necessity: water, the devastating effects of the water crisis and climate change on communities in Niger, while showcasing efforts to bring hope through sustainable solutions.
Director Bio : Aissa Maiga is a French actress, filmmaker, and activist born in Dakar, Senegal, and raised in France. Throughout her career, she has worked with renowned directors and gained recognition for her performances in films like Bamako and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. In 2021, she directed Above Water (Marcher sur l’eau), highlighting the water crisis in Niger. Maïga is also an outspoken activist, raising awareness about underrepresentation in the media and creating more inclusive spaces in the industry.
