Synopsis : An experimental documentary exploring life aboard the Swedish icebreaker Frej. Filmed in 1986, it captures the crew's everyday tasks and emotional lives through three different perspectives. Jean Rouch’s segment, Ouverture, focuses on the day-to-day reality of the icebreaker crew using cinéma vérité techniques, offering a raw depiction without external commentary. Raoul Ruiz’s segment, Histoires de Glace, blends surrealism with documentary elements, turning the icebreaker into a symbol of isolation and otherworldliness. Titte Törnroth adds a more personal perspective in Hans Majestäts Statsisbrytaren Frej, where crew members reflect on their work and downtime, creating an introspective and meditative atmosphere.
