Synopsis : Avril, a passionate lawyer, often takes on impossible cases. She agrees to defend Dariuch's dog, Cosmos, who is on trial after biting three people. This becomes the first dog trial since the Middle Ages. However, her opponents push a political agenda, using the case to advocate for a more secure Switzerland, demanding Cosmos to be put down. The court sessions are filled with absurd debates and expert opinions, adding to the drama. Avril knows that losing the case means Cosmos will be euthanized, putting her under immense pressure to secure a win.

Director Bio : Laetitia Dosch is a French-Swiss actress, playwright, and filmmaker. Known for her roles in films like Jeune Femme (2017) and Age of Panic (2013), she made her directorial debut with Dog on Trial in 2024. The film, inspired by a real-life case of a dog on trial for biting people, explores themes of justice and animal rights with a satirical twist. Dosch’s background in theater and her play Hate, which featured a live horse on stage, played a pivotal role in shaping her directorial style. Dog on Trial premiered at Cannes 2024 in the Un Certain Regard section.
