Synopsis : Samia, a determined young woman from war-torn Mogadishu, defies societal norms by running, a pursuit discouraged for women in Somalia. Despite harassment and limited resources, she trains on a mortar-damaged track, inspired by Olympic champion Mo Farah. At 17, her resilience takes her to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where she represents Somalia. Fueled by a growing ambition, she dreams of competing again at the 2012 London Olympics. However, as circumstances shift, her path to fulfilling her Olympic dream becomes fraught with unexpected challenges, testing her courage and resolve amid Somalia's ongoing conflict and societal restrictions on women in sports.
Director Bio : Yasemin Şamdereli, born on July 15, 1973, in Dortmund, Germany, is a German actress, screenwriter, and film director of Kurdish Zaza descent. She studied at Munich’s University of Television and Film and worked as a freelance collaborator for Bavaria-Film from 1994 to 1998, assisting on international productions like Jackie Chan's Jackie Chan is Nobody and Spy Against Will. In 2002, she directed the TV comedy Alles betürkt! and co-wrote the popular show Turkish for Beginners. Her film Almanya – Willkommen in Deutschland, which premiered in the U.S. at the Berlin and Beyond Film Festival, earned her the prestigious German Filmpreis in 2011.
