Director Bio : Sergei Parajanov (1924-1990) was an influential Soviet filmmaker, known for his groundbreaking and often controversial work in cinema. Born in Tbilisi to Armenian parents, Parajanov attended the prestigious Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. He gained international recognition with films like Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1964) and The Color of Pomegranates (1969), which deviated from the norms of Socialist realism and introduced a unique visual style. His works, rich with cultural and mythological references, defy conventional narrative structures, embracing poetic, non-linear storytelling. Parajanov’s career was marred by political persecution, including imprisonment in the 1970s for charges related to his sexuality, but he continued to make significant films after his release. Despite censorship, his legacy as a master of cinematic artistry endures globally
