Synopsis : The journey of a harmonium becomes an unfortunate talisman as it passes through different hands. A young princess receives the harmonium from her father, which later accompanies her as she faces various tragic turns—becoming an orphan, then a widow, and finally penniless. The harmonium is eventually sold, bringing misfortune to everyone who owns it, and its eventual fate reflects the pain and survival within the characters’ lives, highlighting the social hardships of the time.
Director Bio : Tapan Sinha (1924-2009) was a celebrated Indian filmmaker known for his contributions to Bengali cinema, with a career spanning over four decades. He began as a sound engineer at Kolkata’s New Theatres and later in the UK with Pinewood Studios. Inspired by global cinema, he transitioned to directing and debuted with Ankush (1954). Sinha’s films, often adapted from Bengali literature, reflect a keen social consciousness and sensitivity to human struggles. Works like Kabuliwala (1957) and Apanjan (1968) earned him national acclaim, and his focus on diverse genres, including children’s films, set him apart. Tapan Sinha received several prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri, and his films still continue to be celebrated for their emotional depth and technical brilliance.
